Cactus stitching card with Sveta Fotinia

Hello everyone!

Today I made a funny card using Cactus Stitching Dies that was designed by Benzie Design for the felt but can be easily used for paper works, including cards.
Cactus shape is so fun and I decided to draw a smile on it using my black point pen. Then I adhered it on a green cardstock and added a die cut sentiment (unfortunately I missed that fact that this particular die is no longer available at the shop but you can go with this one instead for example)

This card is super easy but super fun and eye-catching. Choose three colors of cardstock, die cut, adhere and it's done!

Hope you enjoyed my new quick idea.
Big hugs :)

Magnolia Cards with Daria [VIDEO]

Hello-hello Dear Friends,

Daria here. Today, I am playing with Magnolia stamp set with Coordinating dies. I've seen the video from Kelly using our Magnolia stamp set and decided I need to play with it too.

Here you can find a little how-to video.

I started with stamping looots of flowers, colouring them in yellow, die cut and arrange them on a card-base.  I used the sentiment from the same stamp set. Plus, I added a panel made with dies from Gift Card Box Add Ons. It creates a focal point on a sentiment.

I've also glued a flower on that front panel. It creates even more dimension.

When I finished that card, I still had a few flowers and a rhombus left and decided to use it on another project. Recently Jennifer McGuire had a card with spot-light colouring - that was my inspiration. I placed the flowers on a rhombus to put it in the center of my card.

For the background, I again used a patterned paper from Modern Graphics paper pack from Julie Ebersole. I like how it adds a lot of contrast.

I added a sentiment from  Typed Sentiments stamp set and placed it on a banner from Skinny Stripes dies on the side of the rhombus.

Thanks so much for stopping by, hope you've liked those ideas and will give them a try.
Have a wonderful day,
D.

Crafting Is My Jam with Koren Wiskman

Hello everyone, Koren here with another card featuring an older Neat & Tangled Stamp set. This one uses the Crafting is My Jam stamp set currently on sale in the Neat & Tangled online store, and features an array of crafting items such as scissors, a paint brush, and even a paint swatch.  I used this set to make a card that represents me . I’m sure many of my crafty friends around the world would appreciate a card such as this.

I started out using a piece of Neenah 110 lb Solar White Classic Crest Cardstock. I cut it down to 3 1/2 by 4 3/4. I loaded it into my original MISTI stamping tool and pulled out the sentiment that reads “crafting is my jam”. I arranged this stamp in my MISTI so that it would stamp in the upper center portion of the card panel. I also used the dotted line image across the front to begin creating the scissored area. I used Versafine Claire Nocturne Ink to stamp both elements. Once they were stamped in place, I left them to dry for just a few additional minutes. This ink is a little slower drying than dye inks because of its pigment ink properties.

While that panel dried, I stamped the images of the scissors, the spool of thread, as well as the paint brush on another sheet of paper. This time I used Ranger Watercolor paper. I stamped them using Simon Says Stamp Fog ink. I used the light gray ink so that I could paint over the lines.

To color these images I wanted to practice with my American Crafts Gouache Paper Fashion Paint Set 1. To do this I added small drops of each color onto my glass palette, and added a bit of water to each color to loosen it up into a creamier texture. I added the paint  using a small round brush from the Nuvo brush set.  I'm still learning how to use these paints, but i'm excited about the chalk like texture it gives my images.

After I was done coloring each image, I used my Fiskars spring action scissors to cut them out. I tried to cut as close to the lines as possible leaving as little border as possible.  Each one of these images will be added to the front panel.

Once the front panel was completely dry, I used my scissor to cut a line up to the dotted line in the side of the front card panel. I used my fingers to fold back both fold in the paper and adhered them in place using dots of Nuvo Deluxe liquid adhesive. I then cut a piece of patterned paper to stick behind the opening as to reveal the pattern behind it.  I just lined up the paper to the edge of the panel and used the same liquid adhesive to attached it to the panel in the areas unexposed. Now it appears as though the scissors are cutting through the paper and revealing a different pattern behind it.  I used Simple Stores Crafty Girl 6 x 8 patterned paper for this.

I popped up the entire front panel onto a Simon Says Stamp Fog Card Base  using tear tape adhesive and gray craft from. Once the panel was attached to its base I then started to add the images. I used liquid adhesive to tuck the scissor into the area that is folded back. Then I used Tonic Studios foam adhesive to attach both the paint brush and the spool of thread.

To make the assembly a little nicer, I stamped the same image of the thread onto the panel directly and painted the thread. This way I didn’t have to fussy cut a thin image such as this thread. I just focused on cutting out the main portion of the image and allowed the stamped image to not only show depth but it allowed me to cheat on cutting out the really thin parts of the image. I wish I had colored the entire image behind it because you can see it  underneath in some of the photos. Next time I use this technique I’ll be sure to color both images completely.

I did add a little bit of Nuvo Crystal Glaze to the sentiment and to the tip of the paint brush. I just wanted to make it look like the paint brush was painting on the sentiment. Even though the Crystal glaze was a little too runny to stay where I had put it, it still makes it look like the brush did the job and that’s all I wanted. I don’t need it to look perfect.

I hope you enjoyed my project for today. I love how this card turned out and I can’t wait to send it to one of my crafty friends.

Masking Stencils

Welcome everyone! Mindy here today and I'm sharing a card I created by masking off my stencil. The Hexastar stencil has such amazing designs on it and instead of ink blending the entire background, I masked off certain areas to create my own design.

I found an area on my stencil where the design formed a full shape as shown below. I then centered it on a panel of Neenah Solar white card stock and held it in place with masking tape. Next, I started masking off areas around the designs. This helps protect the area so I'm only getting ink where I want it. Some areas I masked off with post it tape and some areas I just used scratch paper.

To create my rainbow pattern I am using Festive Berries, Carved Pumpkin, Mustard Seed, Twisted Citron, Peacock Feathers, and Wilted Violet Distress Inks. I apply each of these colors using a finger dauber which is great for small areas.

Once I have my pattern done, I can remove my masks and stencil. I kept this a simple one layer card by just adding a sentiment to the center using the Foliage Frame stamp set.

Masking off areas of your stencil to create your own design is a great way to get more out of your stencils.

Magical Distress Ink Background with Kelly Latevola

Hello Crafters!

I hope you're having an amazing week.
We made it halfway through ya'll.

I have been really into clean and layered cards lately and typically that means a lot of white for me. But when I pulled out my magnolia stamp set I just kept picturing it in a magical forest.

Why?
Everything is better with magic :)

I really wanted to create this magical forest feel in my background, BUT I didn't want to stamp out a hundred leaves. I decided I could create it with some stamps, perfect pearls, and of course some magically ink blending.

I wanted to create a stream of sunlight that would be shining in the background. I ink blended starting with my lightest color in the bottom left and top right had corners. I felt like a diagonal ray of light would deliver the illusion a little better than straight up and down. I moved out from my lightest color to my darkest. Here's my tip for good blending, once you go lightest to darkest go back and do darkest to lightest. By doing the blending twice the paper is more heavily saturated and has a bolder color.

I used two half sheets of copy paper to mask my edges while I flicked on some clean water just in the center where it's lightest. I moved the masks out a little farther, still keeping the corners covered and spattered on some perfect pearls. I removed the masks entirely and used a very minimal amount of water to flick on small, I mean tiny, droplets of spatter onto some the darker parts to create a natural edge to the light ray.

The last bit of magic to add to the background is the stamping. I stamped the Fairy Dust stamp in white pigment ink directly over the lightest part of the ray. I then second and third generation the Fairy Dust stamp to the left and right of the center to again reinforce that that natural edge gradient.

You can see the entire card including the copic coloring in the video below.

I think I achieved the goal of making it a magical background however, I think there's a ton of other images that would look amazing with this type of background.
I hope you'll give it a try!

Thanks so much for stopping by!
