Introducing our September Guest Designer - Kath Stewart

We're very excited to introduce you to this month's guest designer, Kath Stewart.  You might recognize Kath's work from the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge. She specializes in mixed media pieces and we are so excited to see what she does with our products!  Here's a little more about Kath, and her first project:

Hi, I live in the North East of Scotland with my husband and my “always by my side and in the thick of the action” crafting partner, an adorable Golden Retriever called Buddy. I have worked in the crafting industry for many years with great companies who have given me wonderful opportunities and I have made many lasting friendships along the way. I do what I love and love what I do and am just as passionate about papercrafting now as I was all those years ago because when you put stamps and inks together, magic happens.

I’m absolutely thrilled to have been invited by Neat and Tangled to be the September Guest Designer and I’m sharing with you today two cards to celebrate the arrival of new additions, one for a girl and one for a boy using the Balloons Duo Stencil with sentiments from the Hooray and Life’s A Game stamp sets

So let’s get started. I applied Mustard Seed Distress Oxide ink through the first stencil in the Balloon Duo set using a Tim Holtz Distress Blending Brush, positioned the second stencil in the set and applied Worn Lipstick. I repositioned Stencils 1 and 2 and added more balloons.

I spritzed the balloons with water using a Distress Sprayer and blotted the excess water with a paper towel

I coloured a White A2 card blank with Worn Lipstick Distress Oxide ink using a Distress Blending Brush, trimmed the panel to be slightly smaller and fixed in place. I used a T square ruler and Sharpie Black Fine Line pen to draw in the strings and added hand drawn loops

I stamped the Hooray sentiment with Simon Says Stamp Intense Black ink and added dots to the letters with a Sakura White Gelly Roll Pen.

I stamped the “New Addition” sentiment from the Life’s A Game stamp set.

I made the Boy card in exactly the same way using Salty Ocean and Mustard Seed Distress Oxide inks.

I’ll be back on the 21st to share another project, in the meantime, happy crafting.

Hooray Card - Two Ways with Daria [Video]

Hello Dears,

Daria here. So glad you are joining me today. Lately, I am trying to give more love to the products I really like but haven't got much time to play with. This time it is about Hooray Die and Stamp sets and Ballon Duo Stencils. Those are one of my all time favorites.

I've started from the background. I applied Distress Oxide inks through Ballon Duo Stencils to make loots of balloons flying in the air. I like transparent balloons with gold confetti inside, so I wanted to mimic that in my card. To make it, I applied Tonic Nuvo Glimmer Paste in Gold through the stencil, but covering each balloon only partially.

I stamped the large bold and so beautiful Hooray Stamp in Black and then die-cut it with the coordinating Hooray Die; which also could be used as stand alone (wink).

Here is a video to show you how it was done:

I like how turquoise and gold look together and decided to make not such a busy card, but a more clean one.

So, i stenciled only a few balloons, added Hooray die, and finished it up with a some banners. I die-cut those using Banner dies from Scalloped die set and different paper (grey, lilac and gold). I also stamped a little Happy Birthday sentiment from So Many Sentiments Stamp set.

There will be a short video on making that card over Neat&Tangled Instagram. Be sure to subscribe and check it out.

I hope you liked that simple ideas and will give them a try. Be sure to tag us in social media. It is always so rewarding to see what you create.

Hugs, Daria.

Happy Happy Cardmaking with Keeway

Hi there! It's Keeway joining with you today in a happy, happy cardmaking session to make a fun birthday card! If there's any card I send out the most, it's birthday cards, so I definitely like to keep the stocked at all times. In our recent April Release, these adorable elephants in the Mommy, Daddy, and Me set, are not only great for your mother's and father's day cards, but can easily be transformed for any other occasion. Today, I'll be using them to create a fun birthday card.

I always start by stamping my images in hybrid ink (copic friendly) and coloring them up with copic markers. Then, I die cut them with the coordinating dies and set them aside. My elephants are from the Mommy, Daddy, and Me set, and the balloon came frrom the Little Monster set.
For my background, I wanted to create a celebratory feel, so what better than to fill it up with balloons! I used the Balloon Duo Simply Stencils to create this balloon filled background by blending on Tattered Rose, Worn Lipstick, Picked Raspberry, and Seedless Preserves distress oxide inks. With some masking using post-it tape, I also blended Hickory Smoke for the ground.
I die cut the background out of an A2-sized frame.
Then, I grabbed a birthday sentiment from the So Many Sentiments stamp set and heat embossed it in white onto black cardstock. I used the fishtail die from the Classic Tag 2 die set to die cut the sentiment out. Finally, I adhered all the various pieces to the blended background with foam tape. All done! Have a happy, happy day!

Happy Happy Birthday

Hi there! It's Cheiron here with my monthly post. Today I have a fun birthday card featuring the Balloon Duo Stencils. For this card, I wanted to keep the colors simple with some fun and elegant pink and gold balloons and lots of sparkle.

I inked through the Balloon Duo Stencils with Tattered Rose and Antique Linen Distress Oxides, then I used a Tim Holtz Distress Blending Brush to create shading on the edges of the balloons with Warm Lipstick Distress Oxide and Delicata gold ink. Then I misted the entire panel with Sparkle Sheer Shimmer Spritz and gave it a light splatter of Gold Shimmer Spritz using a paintbrush to create small drops. Once it was dry, I added a bunch of Light and Luminous Sequins.

I stamped and embossed the sentiment from the So Many Sentiments set with white embossing powder to complete the card.

Design Team Reunion: Katie Gehring

Katie Gehring here!  I am so excited to be here today to help celebrate Neat and Tangled’s 5th birthday!! I have a couple festive cards to share with you featuring the Wild Ones stamp set  and matching Nice and Neat dies.
My first card highlights the darling monkey and balloon image.  I die cut a panel of white card stock with the Scalloped Nice and Neat dies .  I used the Balloon Duo Stencil and Distress Oxide ink to create the balloon background. I stamped and die cut the monkey from the Wild Ones stamp set before coloring the image with Copic markers. The “Celebrate” sentiment is from the Just for You stamp set and a few Crystal Clear Mix sequins to add a finishing touch.
For my second card, I used the Giraffe and bird from the Wild Ones stamp set.  I again pulled out the Scalloped Nice and Neat dies and used the middle sized rectangle to cut a scallop background .  I stamped lots of the confetti images with red, yellow, and orange ink.  I stamped the sentiment, adhered the stamped and die cut images and affixed all the elements to a teal note card.
Here’s a look at both cards together.  I am so happy to have a couple of wildly fun cards all ready for the next celebration!

I hope that you enjoyed the cards I shared today. Big thanks and hugs to Danielle for having me back for this reunion!  Happy Birthday, Neat and Tangled!  Here’s to many more years of clever designs, cutie cute images, fun sequin mixes, and non stop inspiration!

Thanks so much for stopping by!

Design Team Reunion: Emily Leiphart

Hi, everyone! It's been a while since I last blogged but when Danielle asked me to join the Neat & Tangled design team reunion, I couldn't refuse! I spent two amazing years working for Danielle and loved the products she designed, along with Miriam Prantner and Elena Roussakis, so I fittingly used products designed by all three super talented ladies on my trio of cards today.

First, I stamped, watercoloured and die cut the cute little monkey and birthday hat from Wild Ones. While those dried, I used the Balloon Duo Stencil to create backgrounds for the monkeys. I splattered the balloons with shimmer spray and set the panels aside to dry.

Next, I split a sentiment from Happiest Birthday, another Neat & Tangled anniversary set, as well as Journaling Numbers dies to create the custom sentiments. The 'th' is from the sentiment 'throw kindness around like confetti', which I masked and stamped next to the number six.

The glittery numbers were adhered to fun foam to make them pop and my Xyron sticker maker made it very easy to attach the layers together and to the panel itself.

To finish, I cut out coordinating patterned paper panels from a retired paper pad and adhered them to the card base before attaching the stencilled panels asymmetrically.

In the close-up photos below, you can see the effect of the shimmer spray on the balloons. The shimmer acts the same way water does on distress inks, except it leaves shimmer behind which I love!

All images and sentiments were stamped with Versafine pigment ink and clear embossed for added visual interest and easy colouring.

I have three neighbours turning six in the next couple of weeks and, luckily, I had the perfect products for the upcoming celebrations! ;) It's been a pleasure being back on the Neat & Tangled blog for the reunion and I hope you enjoyed today's inspiration.

Thanks so much for stopping by!

Design Team Reunion: Nina-Marie Trapani

Hello everyone! Nina-Marie here! I am so excited to be guesting today for Neat & Tangled’s 5th Birthday celebration! I cannot believe it’s been five years already since Danielle started one of my favorite stamp companies.

For their birthday, Neat & Tangled released a bunch of awesome new products, which I am using on my cards today. I wanted to use my Distress Inks to make a layered background behind a full-card shaker. Full-card shakers are a really fun card style; have you ever tried it?

The Distress Inks were fun to pair with the Balloons Duo stencil in making my background. I used Picked Raspberry, Spiced Marmalade and Mustard Seed for the colors. To make the background, I started by ink smooshing a layer of the colors onto watercolor paper. Then I took the same three colors and watercolored in the balloons of the stencil. Because the Distress Inks are translucent, you get a really unique blend of colors.

For my sentiment, I used the new Hooray stamp set. I wanted to make the “hooray” word stand out from the colorful background, so I triple heat embossed the sentiment for a cool, dimensional effect! It’s hard to capture on camera, but in real life the difference is noticeable.

Inside the shaker is filled with the Like Magic mix of of sequins, which are SO awesome. These are a unique sequin because they pick up the colors they are paired with. I love how gorgeous they look!

I hope you will check out the video below to see how this card came together! Thank you SO MUCH to Danielle from Neat & Tangled for letting me come back and guest for your 5th Birthday Celebration!! CONGRATS on this HUGE milestone!!!
And thank YOU for stopping by and visiting with me today! Enjoy your Tuesday!

Design Team Reunion: Jean Manis

Hello! It’s Jean here and I’m delighted to be celebrating Neat and Tangled’s 5th birthday!

To create my birthday card, I stamped the adorable monkey from the Wild Ones set onto Arches Cold Press watercolor paper with VersaFine ink. I watercolored the image with Ranger Distress Inks including Oxide Vintage Photo, Oxide Antique Linen and Oxide Spiced Marmalade. Once dry, I cut the monkey with its corresponding die.

I used a variety of inks (including Oxide Spiced Marmalade) to create the stenciled balloon background on Canson watercolor paper (I wanted to match the color of the watercolor paper used for the monkey, which is off-white). I stamped the Every Labels sentiment strips on the Canson paper with VersaFine ink. Once the card was assembled, I sprinkled on sequins for a little sparkle and shine.

Congratulations Danielle and Happy Birthday Neat and Tangled!
