Keep Cool

Hey All!  Hope you had a great weekend.  Ours was nice, relatively uneventful.  Worked on some things around the house - would you believe we just took our Christmas tree down? Haha, I know some people think that's probably crazy we kept our tree up so long, but we do that just about every year.  G loved looking at it everyday, and was so sad when he woke up and it was gone! Poor kid.  I keep reminding him we have other fun things to look forward to, like summer!  So even though it's only January, here is a summer inspired card for you :o)

The waves were made by using the negative left from my scallop die, and I just inked the edges a bit.  The little inner tube was stamped and colored with Distress Ink. Hope you like! As usual all supplies are linked below the card.

Room Re-Do: Color Scheme, DIY Blanket

This is a stray from my usual card making posts, but still crafty so I hope you enjoy. Forgive the poor quality pictures but they were taken with my unreliable point and shoot at night.

So back over the summer with new baby on the way my nesting kicked in full force and I decided to totally re-do G's room (while simultaneously doing the new nursery).  I thought since he was getting a little older (2) he needed a more sophisticated room (lol). I based the whole room off of some fabric I fell in love with.

I wasn't crazy with how the wall color turned out. At certain times it appears to have a blue tint, others it looks like the light gray I wanted.  I was too pressed for time to find a new color and repaint (and my husband would have killed me).

The first thing I made was a new blanket. It was pretty simple. I picked a coordinating flannel fabric to be the reverse side of the blanket. Flannel so it would be nice and cozy.  Then I chose some satin seam binding to match.

Step 1: Wash and dry fabric. Iron. Lay down fabric right sides facing out and pin.


I used a crib sized blanket to figure out how large I wanted to make the new one. I wanted it to be 'big boy' sized, so when he moves into his new bed it will fit nicely. I'd say it's about 1 1/2 yards long.

Step 2: Sew 1/4 inch around entire perimeter of blanket.

Step 3: (Here is the hardest part). To use the satin seam binding you have to do mitered corners, which I had never done.  Instead of me explaining it unclearly, here are some super clear instructions.

 I actually broke a needle on my sewing machine when I was doing the last corner, so just be careful when your sewing through a few layers of that satin seam binding because it can get thick.

Step 4: Get cozy and enjoy! Here is the finished blanket hanging on G's crib.



If you want something easier you can nix the seam binding edge and just make a simple blanket like I did HERE. I'm actually making one of those to keep downstairs for chilly nights.

I have a few more posts showing some wall art, curtains, collage, etc. I made to update the room. All very inexpensively I might add.

Winter Wonderland

It's been way too long since I played along with Lawnscaping! Here is  little card I made for the current challenge.

Video Tutorial (Finally!)

Thank you all so much for your patience. I know it's got to be crazy annoying when I say I'm going to do something and then take FOREVER to do it.  My intentions are good, but sometimes the kiddos get the best of me :o)

Needless to say I was able to steal away for a few minutes today to put together this tutorial for you.  The card I make in the video is almost exactly the same as the original (seen HERE), just a different sentiment.
