Design Team Reunion: Taheerah Atchia

Hey everyone! It's Taheerah here and I'm so excited to be back on the Neat & Tangled blog to help celebrate their 5th birthday! The time I spent on the Design Team were some of my fondest and I am so proud of Danielle and all she has accomplished! Neat & Tangled will always be close to my heart and one of my favourite companies!

I wanted to make a card that captured the party cake vibe, and the sprinkles on the All The Sprinkles stamp were perfect for that!
I repeatedly stamped the sprinkles onto my card front in different colours to create a fun background! I was going for the look of white icing with loads of different coloured sprinkles on top - I'm guessing I hit the mark as I'm getting hungry just looking at it, ha!
The accompanying sentiment from the Hooray stamp set doesn't have to just be a companion! I let it take centre stage and love the finished look!

A Fond Farewell

Hi friends!  We hope that you had a wonderful Christmas.  It's hard to believe, but in less than a week, it will be 2017!  We have many exciting things planned for the new year, but sadly we are saying goodbye to some very dear members of our team as well - Amy Tsuruta, Nina-Marie Trapani, and Taheerah Atchia.  Today we want to send them off in style.

Amy has been with Neat & Tangled for quite some time, she's been a great advocate and wonderful teammate.  Here are some of our favorite Amy projects from over the years:

 For my card today I used our Merry and Bright Dies, along with my Gansai Tambi watercolors.  This card was very easy to put together, and could easily be made as a set, or mass produced using different colors!  To create it, I simply die cut the larger open shadow die from a 4" x 5.25" panel of card stock. On a second panel of watercolor paper I chose one shade of red watercolor paint, and created a simple gradient background.  Once the paint dried, I adhered the die cut panel on top of the watercolor panel with foam tape. I then stuck on the die cut sentiment, and placed the completed panel on a card front.

November Release Redux Cards by Taheerah

Hey everyone, happy Wednesday! It's Taheerah here today to share some cards featuring the November release!

It seems that my release package wanted to travel the world a bit and got lost in Mexico! I was so sad to miss out on sharing some Release Week projects, but once my replacement package finally arrived I couldn't wait to tear it open and get stuck in! So although I didn't get a chance to join in with the other talented DT ladies, that just means I've got the limelight to share them with you now!


Totally swoon-worthy, right?!

Let's start with the first card:


For this one I used the May Your Holidays Be stamp set and combined it with the girl elf from Elfs And Their Shelf. I threw in an older set too called Happy Ornaments to turn it into a scene!


I cut out the centre of my main ornament and turned it into a fun shaker pocket! And I loved trimming the banner in two so that I could have it loop behind the ornament, and to have that cute little elf perched on it as it swings!


Next up, it was time to take the Scandinavian Prints Christmas set for a spin:


I created my own patterned paper right on my card front, stamping with a non-traditional colour palette!


Little added details for the stars and snowflakes came courtesy of the May Your Holidays Be and Elfs And Their Shelf sets respectively. The sentiment from Santa's Wonderland is the perfect finishing touch!


Speaking of Santa's Wonderland, I really wanted to play with it on its own too, and then I came up with a really cool and unique idea...


I used partial die cutting to create a snowglobe! I die cut most of the circular ornament from the May Your Holidays Be dies, then used the banner from the same die collection to create the base!


I created a fun shaker scene using the penguin, North Pole and snowflakes stamps. It was quite labour intensive to think through and put together, but the end result was so worth it!!


I used the Merry And Bright dies for the sentiment, doubling up my die cuts- one with black on top of gold, and the other reversed! There are so many fun details and lots of dimension in this beauty and I'm so proud of it!


And finally, possibly, my favourite was saved 'til last:


I built a super-fun scene using lots of different sets! Santa's Wonderland, Elfs And Their Shelf, Beary Merry and Into The Woods all feature here, and they go together perfectly!!


I curved the shelf stamp on my acrylic block to make a sled!! Then I got busy piling on the presents and little extras, and coloured everything with colouring pencils. The deer from Into The Woods makes a perfect Rudolph to tow this sled! I masked off all my images after colouring then ink blended my sky over them, having first heat embossed my snowflakes. Some shimmer, glitter and a gold cord tied everything together perfectly. Whoever gets this card is definitely on the Nice list!

Joyful Christmas Cards and Stamp Surgery Tips by Taheerah

Hey everyone, happy Tuesday! It's Taheerah here today to share a couple of Christmas cards created with the help of some stamp surgery!

First up, let's check out the cards!


Don't they look awesome?! I bet you can't tell where the stamp surgery took place! *wink*


Usually I am the *last* person to resort to stamp surgery. Those poor stamps! I almost always opt for selective inking and/or masking instead. But in some circumstances stamp surgery is the quickest or best option. I came across such a scenario when I was using the Bible Journaling and Christmas Journaling stamp sets.


I had the word 'JOY' from the Christmas Journaling set, but I also wanted to spell out 'TO THE WORLD' - and those stamps don't exist! So I decided to take a look at the words that did exist in the sets and do a little stamp surgery to create what I needed!


I noticed I had a 'WORD' stamp which was just one letter away from being 'WORLD'. I worked out that by doing some stamp surgery on it and on the 'LIFE' word, I could put together the word 'WORLD' and be able to stamp it all in one go! If I had used selective inking or masking then I could have still put the word together, but it would have taken longer to do, and might not have lined up properly. I also worked out that I could get the 'TO' from the word 'TODAY' and 'THE' from the 'THY' and 'LIFE' stamps.

So far so good!


What I didn't bank on was that there were subtle differences in the sizing of the words in this set! So the 'E' from 'LIFE' was too big to go with the 'TH' from 'THY'! So I had to resort to a little more surgery, this time with a stamp from the Christmas Journaling set!


The 'E' from 'EARTH' was the right size - hooray!

Here are both cards again:


Some other notes about how these cards came together. I really wanted the wording to be the attention grabber for the cards, so I decided that the only other embellishment would be the three watercolour stripes down the front, in different metallic shades. These were my abstract interpretation of The Three Kings - neat huh?


I did my watercolouring first, using a mix of different diluted shimmer sprays for my metallics. I then mixed a little glue and glitter together and smeared it over the stripes, to add an extra subtle layer of glitz, then finally stamped my sentiments. I was able to line up all my stamps in my Mini MISTI and stamp them all in one go with perfect placement - go MISTI! I just love the end results!


Stamp Surgery Tips

So I promised you a couple of tips for successful stamp surgery, right? Here we go!
  1. Use a decent pair of scissors when cutting your stamps apart. The last thing you need is to botch the cut because the blades aren't cutting the photopolymer well!
  2. Ink up your stamps with black ink first! This might be a little messy (you can stamp them off slightly before cutting if you like), but this tip is a great one to help you see exactly where the stamping surface is - and where your blades should avoid! Especially important with intricate designs or when elements of the design are close together, like these letters were!
  3. Take the stamp between your fingers and bend it in on itself, with the stamping area on the outside. This will bend the design apart a bit so you can get your scissors into the tighter areas more easily!

I hope these cards and tips have helped to take some of the fear out of stamp surgery - and helped you to see how you can stretch your stamps and create with limited supplies! I'd love to hear what you think about this! Thanks for stopping by!

Cherish Fall Card by Taheerah

Hey everyone, happy Wednesday! It's Taheerah here today to share a seasonal card that is full of the joys of Autumn!

I have been seeing lots of Autumn-themed colours and cards recently, and with the turn in weather I felt compelled to create something that embraces the Season! Rushing in to help me were the Maple Leaves Journaling Card stamp set and the co-ordinating die!

Here's what I came up with:


I just love that mix of oranges, browns and greens! I can almost hear the leaves rustling!


I started by die cutting the journaling card and then watercoloured it with a mix of Distress Stain and Distress Inks. I splattered on some gold mist and some brown ink to really jazz it up!


Once I''d dried the journaling card with my heat tool I stamped it with the co-ordinating stamp set. Such a gorgeous design! I built the sentiment with stamps from the set, and then added that cute little heart from Lumberjack Love to accent it.


I backed the journaling card with some patterned paper so that it peeked out from behind the leaves, then adhered it to my splattered card base. See those little leaves peeking out from the journaling card? I die cut the Hooray die from the same patterned paper, snipped it apart, and added the pieces to finish of my design!
