Introducing April Guest Designer Cathy Zielske

Happy Friday!  We're excited to be introducing this month's guest designer, Cathy Zielske today.  Cathy has been a force in the industry for quite some time, although more focused on the scrapbooking side of things. We're so happy that in the past year she's come over to the 'card' side. We know you're going to love her clean and fresh style and couldn't be more pleased to have her with us this month! Here's a little more about Cathy:

Cathy Zielske is a graphic designer who loves her family, typography, clean and simple design and french fries. Her motto: own your life, document it well and preserve reality. Her mission: take the ‘crap out of scrapbooking. To that end, she offers digital products, online workshops, and writes about crap-free approaches to memory keeping on her blog and in two published books that are currently available in PDF format. She took up card making in 2017, launched a line of stamps and dies with Simon Says Stamp, and is completely smitten with the world of cards. And, she is also spending way too much money on it.

Hi everyone! Cathy Zielske here and I'm honored to have been invited to be a guest designer for Neat & Tangled. This wonderful company was one of the very first stamp makers with whom I fell in love, all because of this card project from the one and only Laura Bassen. (This was my take on Laura's awesome card!)

Today's card is all about the awesome My Favorite sentiment. I love the big size and decided to use a technique I learned from Jennifer McGuire to create a pretty Distress Ink background. The typography on the sentiment is just so great and I knew this would look fantastic stamped and embossed with white powder.

I used an acrylic block and some Distress Inks to create the background you see here. It's a really fun and easy technique! Here's my video for this card project that shows how I did it.

Such a fun, bright and happy card! I finished off the project by adding a few sequins from the Like Magic mix (that part of the video got lost!)

Scandinavian Prints with Daria

Hi friends,
Daria here, and for today's post, I couldn't resist playing with My Favorite stamp, again.... I decided to pair it with flowers from Scandinavian Prints stamp set...

To say the truth, I hardly ever use patterned paper. But this time, I tought it might work nice. I took some old patterned paper from my stash (I believe it is Fresh Cuts by Basic Grey), stamped some flowers from Scandinavian Prints - Stamp Set and die-cut them with coordinating dies from Scandinavian Prints - Nice and Neat Dies. Basicallly, all you need is just the shapes, which you can decorated with any stamps from the set. 

I arrange my flowers around the sentiment using glue dots and foam adhesive. I also added petals made from glitter cardstock. I think it dresses up the card and makes it more interesting. 

I just love how glitters paper catches the sun and sparkels!

My Favorite Card with Daria

Hi Dears!

Daria here and I have for you a clean and simple card using one of my all time favorites stamps from Neat and Tangled. That is My Favorite stamp. Actually, it was the first one I bought, when only started my cardmaking adventure; and I am still in love with it :)

I am a big fan of white cards, and I wanted the sentiment to play the major role - so I've put it on some tags (using Classic Tag 1 Die) and embellished my card with a few gold and lavender stripes to make it more interesting and shiny :) I've also used an embossing folder with stripes to add a little something-something to my card base, without making it busy.

Love the soft and fresh feel of the card, I hope you do too *wink-wink*

Watercolor Pink

Hello everyone !

Amandine here, I hope you are well, you can enjoy holidays or your families.

I just share with you today my first post on the blog Neat & Tangled, and I am excited to show you my creation !

Among the techniques that I like, there's one that has a special place : it's the technique of watercolor ! I fell in love with this technique ! In addition, as it is very hot right now in France, it's a good time to play with a little water !

So it was with this technique that I realized the card I reveals today.

For this card, I simply created a background with the technique of watercolor, all in pink on which I embossed the wonderful stamp "My Favorite".

I then used some sequins "Iridescent White Sparkly Shaker Mix". What I love about this set is that depending on what angle you look at the card, the color changes and gives further effect to our card !

To finalize my card and give it another dimension, I simply stuck my background watercolor on a base pink bazzil.

I hope this card can make you get started in this technique, or just to use it more often. Thank you for taking the time to read, we find ourselves very soon :)

Clean And Simple Love with Taheerah

Hey everybody! Happy Thursday! It's Taheerah here with you today to share a card!

Sometimes you just can't go wrong with a Clean And Simple design! And just because it's a CAS design it doesn't mean you can't add interest in other ways! Today's card also helps stretch those stamps just a little too!

Here's what I came up with:

I love how this turned out!

I started with a white card base and added a panel of cardstock that I wet then peeled a layer off to give a rough texture. I used one of the arrows on the My Favorite stamp to add some interest in the top corner. It's also hard to see in the photo but I flicked on some shine mist too just for some added interest!

I added a paper heart die cut from a vintage book, then layered on top of it a heart stamped on white cardstock from the Sunday School Songs set. I added the sentiment from one of my all-time favourite sets, Gifts For You, accented with some awesome sequins from the Birthday Bash Sequin Assortment and I was all done!

April Guest Designer: Yoonsun Hur

Hello crafty friends, TGIF! Yoonsun here again with my second guest project for April. Today, I want to show you my 2 cards with beautiful handwritten sentiment stamp sets. 

Here is my first card:

So Very Blessed! What an amazing word!! I love this stamp SO much!

For my first card today, I made my own pattern background with the small flowers from the set. 

1)I randomly stamped flowers on the purple cardstock using VersaMark Embossing ink and clear heat embossed
2)For the sentiment panel, I stamped this beautiful handwritten sentiment with VersaMark Embossing ink, gold heat embossed. I then used distress inks - Mustard Seed, Dried Marigold, Picked Raspberry- to add colour the around the sentiment
3)I mounted the sentiment panel on the card using dimensional foam tape
4)Machine stitches and some sequins were the finishing touches

And my second card:

I love Danielle's gorgeous handwritten sentiments, like this My Favorite stamp. Seriously! And YES! my dear crafty friends, you are my most favourite :D

Like the first card, I made my own pattern background with the small flowers from DalaHorse stamp set. 

1)I stamped the small flowers on the watercolour panel using grey pigment ink here and there. Once dry, I coloured the centre of the stamped panel with Peerless watercolours
2)For the sentiment, I stamped it with VersaMark Embossing ink, heat embossed with Liquid Platinum Embossing Powder and then fussy cut it
3)I mounted the stamped panel on the lime green cardstock first and then affixed the sentiment in the middle of the stamped panel using dimensional foam tape
4)Mixed enamel dots were the finishing touches

Chalkboard Party Toppers

Hello, friends! Today Anna's here and my project for today is toppers with chalkboard effect. Chalkboard technique is still in trend, and I think, even in summer days is perfect for decorating party. Neat & Tangled has at its disposal a huge amount of awesome stamps, which are suitable for this technique. And for this project I used them all! :)

First I cut few figures of the black cardstock using 'A Lot To Say' Die. I am delighted with this new die! It can be used together with a stamp, and without it. I chose the second option. And than I just added a heat embossing on them all with N&T stamps and added the chalkboards effect with white ink pad.

Using small circles paper I glued sticks for barbecue on the back side of my toppers. Stylish decoration for a party is ready!

And a little bit about what stamps I used (full list can be found at the end of the post). Some stamps like 'Dreams' are in itself perfect for chalkboard technique. Other stamps (e.g., set 'Sparkle and Shine') I combined with the flowers of  'So Very Blessed', to achieve the desired visual effect. Thus playing with stamps this way, you can create a lot of interesting combinations!

June Guest Designer Vicky Papaioannou!

Hi everyone, Vicky here and today I am using two of my favorite stamps! The "tiny triangles" and "my favorite". If you love heat embossing I know you'll love this card since I went a bit crazy with it! I created an embossed background and also used three colored powders for my sentiment.

Calligraphic Card Set

Hey everyone, Mayuri here to share a card set I whipped up using some of the awesome scripty style stamps from Neat & Tangled.

I began by stamping a very simple plaid pattern on four separate kraft card bases using Distress Inks.

I then stamped four different Neat & Tangled scripty style stamps (My Favorite, Hope Anchors, So Very Blessed, Dreams) onto each card base with Colorbox Frost White pigment ink - I used a stamp positioner and actually stamped each sentiment three times to make the white really stand out!

I did find though, that as the day went by, the pigment ink seemed to get absorbed into the card base and let the Distress Inks seep through.

I added matching Neat & Tangled sequins to each card to finish up this quick and easy calligraphic card set!

There are actually quite a few other scripty style sentiments in the Neat & Tangled store that can be used to create really quick card sets - all you have to do is change the background up and away you go!

mini card challenge!

Hey all, it's Amy T here!  I'm super excited to be officially on the Neat & Tangled team!

I thought it would be fun to play along with the little tangles challenge:

This trio of cards all have a base of 4.25 x 4.25 inches.

I love the combo of color and patterns.  A great way to combine them is to use heat embossing.  Ordinarily with a navy background, using white or black heat embossing would not make the impact that this Paper Source Picante Embossing Powder does!

I've always been a fan of Danielle's swirly sentiments:

Video: Creating woodgrain background with your inks

Hello there,

want a new video-tutorial? Last week I found a tutorial on a technique that creates a stunning woodgrain background that looks even more awesome if it's combined with the large Neat & Tangled sentiment stamps.
The best thing about it: it is easy, it's quick and you don't have to put a lot effort into it. So I really wanted to share this with you and created two cards using the same technique, to show you some of the possibilities.

The video is cut and also sped up, but let me tell you that both cards did take about 15 minutes, so one card can easily be done in less than ten minutes. I hope you give this technique a try! (I totally fell in love with it)

Patchwork watercolour!

Hey everyone, Mayuri here and today I'm sharing a card I prepared using the My Favorite stamp set ;-).

 

I've been wanting to play around with watercolouring techniques and went for one of the more easier ones to start with - basically stamping your chosen image with Versamark and heat embossing with clear or white embossing powder, then painting with watercolour! Easy peasy!

The heat embossed area resists the watercolouring leaving you with a kind of patchwork effect, which I didn't mind for my first attempt ;-). You'll see that I only partially stamped the image so that I could overlay a heart shaped aperture over the watercolouring - I added some letter stickers to complete the sentiment. 

I also stamped the little arrows from the same set around the sentiment to complete the card! Not a sequin or gemstone in sight, which is pretty restrained for me!

These handwritten style sentiments are fabulous because you can do all sorts of techniques, including partially stamping them if you want to combine with other techniques - I think if I wanted to go further with this card, I could turn it into a shaker card...just a thought ;-)
