Rainbow Mail with Janette Kausen

Hello there and welcome to the Neat & Tangled blog! Janette Kausen here with my third and final guest post for February (sad panda). Today’s project features the darling Mail Background, Love Mail Nice and Neat dies and a rainbow of ink blending. Who wouldn’t love that?!? Bring on spring!

To create this card, begin by stamping the Mail Background in a light grey for a subtle design on a scant A2 white cardstock panel.

Stamp image again on a 6” x 6” panel in black and heat emboss clear. Then, ink blend panel with Distress Oxides in Picked Raspberry, Squeezed Lemonade, Peacock Feathers and Wilted Violet. Fussy cut several full envelope images from blended panel.

Die cut a sassy black heart from Love Mail Nice and Neat Dies and adhere to panel with a trail of rainbow envelopes. Pop corners here and there with dimensional adhesive for detail. Stamp Typed Sentiment in black on an inked grey Skinny Strip Nice and Neat Die and pop in place. Adhere finished panel to an A2 card base.

Thank you for visiting today and thank you to Neat & Tangled for the guest invitation. It’s been a pleasure! Keep tuning in to Neat & Tangled for amazing releases and inspiring designs from their incredible creative team!

xo, Janette

Lovely Lotus with Janette Kausen

Hello and welcome to the Neat & Tangled blog! Janette Kausen here with my second of three guest posts for February. Today’s project features the Lovely Lotus stamp set. I’ve used just one flower from the set, but it includes two additional full blooms, two buds, two leaves and a handful of sentiments. This 6” x 8” stamp set is a colorists dream with its open spaces crying out for color!

I’ve taken a bold and graphic approach with minimalist coloring technique to create an eye catcher balanced against a healthy dose of white.

To create this card, stamp a Lovely Lotus in black on smooth Bristol paper and heat emboss with a clear based sparkly embossing powder. Color image with water based markers. Die cut Falling Circles into white cardstock and then back with black.

Adhere trimmed Falling Circles onto an A2 (4 ¼” x 5 ½”) cardstock panel horizontally. Die cut Lovely Lotus and adhere popped up over background with dimensional adhesive. White heat emboss Lovely Lotus sentiment and adhere in place with dimensional adhesive over edge of circle panel. Add a touch of twinkle with holographic thread wrapped three times below the sentiment and secure to back with tape. Adhere finished panel to an A2 card base.

Thank you for visiting today and I hope you’ve been inspired to create! I’ll see you again a little later in the month. In the meantime, be sure to visit the Neat & Tangled shop to view their latest release. It is darling!

Introducing our February Guest Designer - Janette Kausen

Hello there old friends and new! Janette Kausen here and I am squealing just a little inside to be guest designing with Neat & Tangled for the month of February. Before I share my first project with you, let me tell you a bit about myself…

I am married to my high school sweetheart and am the mother of 4 amazing daughters (2 in elementary, 2 in college). We raise our family, including our chocolate Pomeranian Teddy (AKA Juan Pablo, who follows me like my shadow), and rescue critters Luna the cat and Ranger the mutt in the small town of Exeter in central California. We grow oranges, almonds, cherries, grapefruit and a few persimmons. Much of our fruit ships internationally, but a healthy dose remains stateside.

I am an old soul with a Type A personality. Crafting allows me to decompress from the stresses of everyday life. I used to call it cheap therapy, but with "Full Set Syndrome" and eyes like saucers, I’m not so sure! I find my creative bliss in being a paper crafter, stamper, Copic & watercolor lover, quilter, knitter, beader and overall ProCraftinator!

It’s true we have loads of girls around here, but not a one is a girly-girl. I’ve created a not so frilly and pink Valentine’s card that is still just as sweet. Even more, with this simple sentiment, it is a card that can be given all year through!

Denim with just a pinch of glitter? Yes, please! Create the look of denim by die cutting the Wonky Chevron Cover Plate in white cardstock. Copic color each chevron segment solidly varying between B37, B99, B97 and B95.

Piece chevrons back together by adhering onto a darker blue A2 cardstock panel. The dark base will conceal any possible paper gaps. Apply Copic Various Ink Colorless Blender refill solution to a piece of denim fabric until slightly damp. Press fabric against colored Wonky Chevrons for a second or two, then lift. The fabric pattern will emerge on the colored chevrons as it dries. Repeat until desired effect. Terry cloth or corduroy will also create interesting textured prints.

Trim panel one eighth inch on each side and adhere popped up onto an A2 white folded card base. Die cut Love You Nice and Neat Die in white cardstock 3 to 4 times and adhere stacked together with liquid glue. The liquid glue provides wiggle room for easy and perfect alignment. Adhere sentiment to card panel. Die cut included heart in red or Copic color with R35, and pop in place. Apply clear lacquer pen and sprinkle on a fine glitter while wet to achieve a sugared look.

Thank you for visiting today, and, thank you to the Neat & Tangled family for inviting me to share a bit of crafty therapy. I hope you’ve been inspired and I’ll see you again soon!

xo, Janette
