Happy Friday All! Julia Altermann is back to share today, showing us how to 'kick it up a notch' with intricate die cuts. Here's Julia:
Hello crafters! It’s Julia and I’m back with a technique that makes it easy to add glitter and color to intricate die-cuts, something which had been puzzling me for a while – but no longer!
Hello crafters! It’s Julia and I’m back with a technique that makes it easy to add glitter and color to intricate die-cuts, something which had been puzzling me for a while – but no longer!
The – very simple – trick is to add double sided adhesive to the paper you will be die-cutting from. And add it on both sides! Yes, on the backside it will make it easy for you to adhere the intricate die-cut to a surface, and we’ll be adding glitter to the front. I love to use Elizabeth Craft Designs Microfine glitter since it’s easy to color up and it sticks very well to adhesive once burnished.
You have to add the glitter to the adhesive before the die-cutting, and it’s very easy to cut through the glitter, it will not harm your die – here I am using the awesome Hooray die with the floral wreath.
To color in the glitter I am using Stabilo markers (the ones with the broad tip, but the one with the fine tip will work as well, just takes longer). I know you can use Copics, too, but I have damaged the nibs of my Copics in the past with this technique, so I’m rather risking the super cheap Stabilo markers which do a great job, too. Just be aware that the ink takes some time to dry so don’t accidentally smudge your project!
Once everything is colored up, it’s easy to transfer the intricate die-cut onto your card or – in my case – acetate because we added double-sided adhesive to the back as well.
