Watercolor You're A Gem with Cheiron

Hi crafty friends, it's Cheiron here with a stamp set that is older but still a favorite. I feel like so often I get a stamp set and use it once and don't take it out again. I have been going through some of my supplies and here is one that is perfect to give a second look to... the You're a Gem stamps. I have a few thank you notes to make this week for a couple of thoughtful friends and I've been playing with watercolors a lot, so I thought this would be the perfect time to stamp and watercolor some of these images.

For my card today, I stamped the sentiment to one side of the panel and the gems all over the panel in Jet BlackArchival Ink and colored them in with neon watercolors. When the gems were dry I added some shine with a Nuvo Glimmer Pen.  I masked off all the gems (by cutting masks with the coordinating You're A Gem dies) and masking the sentiment and added some black splatter with the black paint from my Gansai Tambi Watercolors.

It's always fun to revisit older stamps and try something new with them, I love the look of these gems with neon and and shimmer.  I hope you will be inspired to take out some stamps that haven't seen a ton of love and make a few cards with them!

Partial and Ovelap Stamping & Die-cutting with Daria [Video]

Hello-hello,

Daria here. So glad you are joining us today. For today's project, I've been playing with heat-embossing on a dark cardstock, April Released Have Courage stamp and die sets, and with partial overlapped die-cutting.

I love that stamp set for the fact that it can be used to create so many different looks and in many different colors. Not only in greens. I especially like that it can be used to create a lace effect.

I started by stamping the sentiment from You're a Gem stamp set, then the leaves from Have Courage stamp set. I used masks to stamp the ginko leaves one over another.

I love the look of gold heat embossing on dark navy cardstock. I think it looks very classy, while the white brings that soft touch to it.

I used partial die-cutting and also made it slightly overlapped to save all the intricate details of the dies.  Here is a video to show you how it was done:

I hope you liked that simple ideas and will give them a try. Be sure to tag us in social media. It is always so rewarding to see what you create.

Hugs, Daria.

You're A Gem Watercolor Background

Hi there! It's Cheiron here with my monthly post. Today I was inspired to make a card inspired by some gift bags I found in the dollar spot at Target. They immediately reminded me of the You're A Gem set, so I picked a few of them up. I thought they would be the perfect gift bags to pass along treats to my crafty friends.

To create the background, I stamped the gems in a pattern on a piece of watercolor paper. Then I colored around all of the gems with a wash of purple. After that was dry, I started to fill in the gems with golds and pinks. Once the gems were dry, I added splatters of the same colors onto the patterned piece to add some interest. Then I sprayed over the entire panel with Tsukineko Sparkle Spray.

I stamped the You Are A Gem sentiment onto the Doily Tag die. I wanted the fun shape of the die, but I did not want it to cover the entire front of the card, so I cut off the edges and added black cardstock underneath to make it pop. To finish the card, I added a few die cut gems. Once everything was adhered, I added a layer of Nuvo Crystal Glaze onto the die cuts to really make them shine.

I love being inspired by everyday items, and it's even better when I find them at a bargain price!

Watercolored | Nancy Damiano

Hey there Neat and Tangled fans, it's Nancy with a pair of watercolored cards. Let's take a look at two very different look colored with the same medium. The first card is very clean and simple with a side of cute!

I used the new Schoolhouse stamp set to create this friendship card. I stacked three of the images so that the little mouse could "write" out the sentiment. I used a black pigment pen to create some swirly lines under and above the mouse to connect him to the design.

I used Kuretake Gambai watercolors to color in the images. I used very little water to get a very vibrant wash of color. I left some of the edges white to match the whimsical feel of the stamped images. It's a bold look for a clean card.

Now let's go in a completely opposite direction and use watercolors to add a very loose, flowing wash of color. Here the You're a Gem stamp set was used with white embossing powder to create a border at the bottom of the card. This offers a nice resist effect when layered with watercolors.

I used a clean, wet brush to add some water to the background and then added pink, yellow and orange watercolor paint. A spray bottle was used to spritz the paint to blend it. I love how all of the nooks and crannies in the gems filled up with beautiful color!

I love using watercolors to create very different looks. I like variety and this medium really delivers!

You're a Gem with Sharna Waksmulski

Hello Neat & Tangled friends! I am so excited to be joining you today!

I have a shaker card featuring the new set, You're a Gem. I often need thank you cards & cards for crafty friends so I absolutely fell head over heals for the sentiments in this one.
I watercolored the background in a soft pastel rainbow. The gems I white heat embossed and using the same shades as the background colored them in as well. I cut the frame to leave a small boarder around the edge so the background is continous across the cardbase. I filled the shaker with the gems as well as the sparkling rainbow sequin mix from Lucy's little things.
Finally, I adheared the panel to a 100lb cardstock base & gave it a good shake!

Thank you so much for stopping by!
